Dear Avid Dancers,
Greetings!
Just want to ask and get a feel of the respond from all dancers if they are keen in having a friendly Malaysia Vs Singapore Hip Hop Dance Competition?
Any comments on such a scale of dance competition? It has been awhile since the Malaysia Cup that Malaysia & Singapore, whom are neighbours, do something that we can all 'watch out for!'
For your comments and input please everyone. Thank you.
Best Regards

Hi Aross.Elecoldxhot, Firstly, let me thank you for allow omg post in this forum. Yes. OMG is very keen in organizing such a competition too. We want to do this but meanwhile, we need some information and gathering some knowledge before embarking on this project. From my knowledge, most of the Hip Hop Community in Malaysia is in KL, JB and Penang. Am I right to say so? Any other states that is into Hip Hop Culture? I will appreciate if the members of this forum and your kind self can assist in letting me know who are the big dance schools/groups in both Malaysia and Singapore. And if you know of any sponsors or businesses that would be keen in supporting this event, please let me know. Malaysia and Singapore are neighbours. There are things that we share and have similar culture. Many of us have friends on either sides of the Causeway. I see no reason why we can not make the relationship between the people closer. Sharing of Dance Culture, for once, is a first little steps for the youths and young at heart. OMG hope to pull this off sometime in June/July this year. So watch out! And yes. this forum will be one of those first few who will get to know Thank you & Regards, OMG

Hi Aross, Nice to be seeing you again. And yes. Its nice to know members from everyone here in the forum as well. As of now, the organizer from Singapore is OMG and from Malaysia is none other than Uncle Lim - Genting International. But pls keep it within this forum for the time being ok? We are working out the final format and prizes now. Will most probably drop by KL/JB to meet-up with Sponsors, Dance Sch/Partners/Grps etc. Are you guys based in KL? The reason for doing so is to make this inaugration event a huge success. We want both quality and numbers - so the number of people/dancers is impt to me. I would love to send you the proposal. But do let me finalise the details first. And yes, I would rather u join the competition! Haha. Good prize money! And yes, I hope to have more dance grps in Malaysia can reserve their dates for me! Haha. Nice meeting you again Aross. Look forward in meeting with you soon. Thank you. OMG

This days I was thinking about this competition.. And what we could help up?? Invite more ppl know this event? (We always do..)
Since look like you already had completed support on your side..
But I also sure you need some info about: Previously Malaysia nation wide dance competitions (statistic).. - How many states involve.. Host at where? (Reference of the wide spend with your dance comp..) - What kind of type comp they have? (Strength between junior and senior.) - How many dance crews / soloist joining? (Estimation by each states).. - Special add on event in during the competition? (This one could attracted more contestant or side add on business in your dance competition)
Those are not suggestion point. Is happen in previous dance competitions.. Some are having good respond too..

Hi Aross,
Sorry for the late reply. We were rather busy with some other events in Singapore for the past for days.
Good news! The competition is very likely to run!! Before I can confirm the competition, I would need the following info ...see if you or any of the Forum Readers can help.
1) To re-instate why I need to know a few dance schools or group in Malaysia is because I need to have varies judges for the hits and quarter finals in both KL (Genting) & JB. It would be a little too troublesome for me to fly my Singapore Dance Instructors and Judges over. However, OMG & Team will be there and myself or another of my staff will sit in the auditions/quarter finals.
2) I need some referrences for sponsors. Not that I am greedy for more sponsors ...but I feel that it would be better and more fair if I can have both sides of the Causeway business sponsors to come in, other than Genting and OMG. OMG is committed to make this event a BIG SUCCESS and to continue this annually. (This is where I needed all the support from everyone to support in order to make this possible.)
3) Locations. I need both outdoor and indoor locations (Shopping Malls/Dance Studios in JB & possibily KL) for the Auditions and Quarter Finals. I have tentatively gotten First World Plaza for hits and quarter finals for KL portion. However, JB is still pending. We have written to Denga Bay Shopping Mall and City Square, waiting for their reply. Any other recommendations?
The intented competition is only for Group Category and we are looking at a minimum of 4 to maximum of 8 dancers per team. We also intend to host dance workshops for both Malaysia & Singapore Dancers during the Grand Final trip.
In addition, we are also speaking to "The Groovaloos" Hip Hop Champ from the USA to come down as guest judges and to conduct workshops. However, these will depend on their availbility and also the cost.
As mentioned, I might be making a trip later this month or early April to JB &/or KL for meetings and would love to meet up with some of the Dance Groups (esp people from this forum) and touch base. Ideally, I could also meet up with some sponsors, if any, to seal up the deals.
Time is indeed running out for us. We are trying our very best to put together this Dance Competition. Any suggestions and comments from all forum members are most welcome.
Thank you for the wonderful responses and support from all at this forum!
Cheers & regards,
OMG

Any chance of this event expanding into a mini congress? We lack that in this part of the region where international stars are invited to come here to perform/conduct workshops as well as promote their own publicity. It could be a 3 day event over a weekend with the competition as the main highlight and final event. Lots of international instructors ard and dancers rushing from workshop to workshop the whole day. A nice place to hold this would be suntec convention. Just a suggestion.

Hi Byrin,
Thank you for your suggestion!
The competition planning and budgetary are already underway. As such, we might not be able to expand this competition into a mini dance congress/conference.
However, there are plans to do something similar next year. We are looking at overseas judges and instructors to conduct lessons in both SG & M'sia.
Look out for the competition details soon! Meanwhile, stay hip and be safe (From Swine Flu) people! Cheers!
